There are approximately 3,200 households in the Mayfair neighborhood, which is bordered by Colfax on the north, Sixth Avenue on the south, Monaco on the east and Eudora on the west. Of those households, only about 200 have paid membership dues for 2017. Some of you may be wondering why we need membership dues and what that money is used for. Throughout the year our all-volunteer board works to organize and execute events in the neighborhood in which everyone is invited to attend and participate, whether or not you’ve paid your membership dues. These events include:
- Spring Shred-A-Thon
- Easter Egg Hunt
- Garage Sale
- Fourth of July Bike Parade
- Dog Daze
- Concert in the Park (over 500 attendees/year)
- General Meeting
For all these events there are various costs associated with putting them on, including signage to announce place and time of the event, permits for the park, paying the band, candy and eggs for the Easter Egg Hunt, renting the shredding truck, etc.
In addition to our events, we curate content and publish the Mayfair Mirror four times each year. The advertising revenue covers most of the cost of publication, but we usually have a small shortfall.
In general, we want to be as frugal as possible and reuse where possible (i.e. plastic Easter eggs, generic event signs). We ask for sponsors and/or donations to help with our events. King Soopers and Safeway have often helped us get enough candy for the Easter Egg Hunt, and the VCA Animal Hospital has sponsored Dog Daze the last two years. We are grateful for their help.
To keep up with costs, we have decided we need to increase our membership dues for the first time in several decades. Membership will be $20 per household, $15 for seniors (65+) and $30 for businesses. We sincerely appreciate the contributions that our members make each year and hope we can continue to rely on your support and see others in the neighborhood join in and continue to make Mayfair a neighborhood to be proud of. Please mail your checks in the envelopes enclosed with this edition of The Mirror, or you can pay online at www.mayfairdenver.org. Thank you so much for supporting your Mayfair neighborhood!
